You Think Your Beliefs Are Better Than Others' ? You Really Know the Least Then!

In this wide universe we abode, there are some things that you can be absolutely sure of. The Earth is round, it goes around the sun, everybody is going to die someday, and tax day is going to come around every single year. But if you feel that you've got the one correct answer to a question that's a little more controversial, then you might want to double-check that. Because, the more certain you are about something, the less informed you're likely to be about it after all.

People with a high degree of what they call "belief-superiority" had the largest gap between how informed they assumed they were and how informed they actually were about the subjects they were so opinionated about.

Belief-superiority is how much you believe that your belief is better than those of other people. Sometimes, even thinking your ideas or way of thinking is of higher quality than the the rest. Not considering that this is just a relative value based on what you think and isn't absolute. Studies have shown that such people delude themselves.

One aspect of the Dunning Kruger effect states that the most qualified people feel the least confident about their abilities and the least qualified are the most certain that they've got the skills to spin the world. This is simply to say that incompetent people feel great! You can clearly observe in politics, companies and amongst your colleagues and friends.

And whenever a person with this mentality comes across articles with headlines they agree with, they are less likely to further read them.Because such articles didn't jibe with their previously held beliefs.

Such people are not only less informed about the things they felt the most strongly about, but they are generally also less likely to seek out information that might expand their knowledge about those things. Open-mindedness and curiosity don't dwell in their already indoctrinated or self-absorbed state of mind.

Check yourself and see if you have such obnoxious tendency of belief-superiority, re-evaluate and try reading horizon-expanding think pieces/knowledge. Maybe, and just maybe, the next time you're feeling really fired up about something, it's a good moment to step back and consider a different point of view.
